Mama...

The word wraps around me like a soft, cozy blanket, warming me from the inside out.

Mama...

the first thing I hear in the mornings and the last before I tuck them in all safe and warm; blankets pulled up to chins as I whisper I love you and they whisper it back.

Mama...

warm little hands holding onto mine tightly as I guide them across the streets; lazy walks to nearby parks; arms held out wide for me to catch them as they slide.

Mama...

when did he get so big and too grown-up for a hug before school? I grab him and wrap him up anyway making a rosy red blush color his cheeks.

Mama...

new words learned; new adventures to be had; seeing the world through their eyes as if for the first time, everything has a new meaning; life takes on a different purpose.

Mama...

with each child born, my love is multiplied; each child holding my heart in the palms of their hands, and I am like putty, forming and bending and molding into place.

Mama...

when they say I love you for no reason at all; my breath catches in my throat with surprise and I want to make time pause for just a while longer.

Mama...

the best feeling in the world...

to be their mama.

Broken

Be the change you wish to see in the world...
                                                              -gandhi

Remember this mug?

My very favorite sweet-and-creamy-coffee-holding mug?

The one that reminds me daily to "be the change"...

Mmmhmmm...

As I was putting the dishes away on Saturday...

Not even two short minutes after I scolded Jacob for who knows what, which led him to throw the T.V. remote across the room and shatter into a few pieces, which led me to yell at him to get to his room and ground him from his favorite Star Wars game for the rest of the day, (which might really be more of a punishment for me than for him)...

my mug flew...not joking...FLEW out of the cupboard and broke.

My plans are to superglue it.

But the last time I superglued something, the fingers on my left hand bonded together, and the fingers on my right hand bonded to the ornament I was gluing in the first place.

How did this happen? The bottle exploded...

all over my hands...

and my family laughed at me, because it really was quite hilarious.

So for now, I will let it sit on the counter...

reminding me by the minute to "be the change"...

because if that isn't a wake-up call, I don't know what is.

Ten Reasons...

Why running outside in January is awesome.

1. Today was the first day I've run since Thanksgiving weekend. YIKES! (Sick kids, holidays, cookie baking, Christmas shopping, not a full nights sleep due to sick kids...you know, the usual excuses).

2. I have, however, been Shredding it up with the awesomely annoying Jillian Michaels...

3. But it is SO not the same.

4. Running outdoors is awesome anytime.

5. But when it's January 8th, and the weather in Minnesota is usually cold, cloudy, snowy, icy, and just generally sucktastic...

6. Running outside is even better.

7. Better because this is the first year I've run outside in January.

 This is today, people...January 8th...in Minnesota...awesome.

8. I'm usually at the gym, fighting the New Year's Resolutioners for a treadmill...

9. Never fear, though, I usually win...except this one time when I overslept a bit, and there was not one treadmill to be had.

10. Running outside in January is awesome...that is all.

I honestly can't believe what a huge weirdo I am to take a picture of myself while running...don't worry, I looked around to see if anyone was looking before I snapped this.
Do my cheeks look chubby? I think I'm still carrying around a little holiday weight.

Wow! That was a ramble of a post...I'm sure if you head over to Stasha's, there are plenty of non-rambling posts that are much better reads.
