Love Actually...

1. is one of my favorite movies.

2. Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays. Some people may think it's just a Hallmark card, commercialized, sappy, mushy day only for lovers. But, I feel it's a day to celebrate love...
for everyone.

3. Even though I'm a hopeless romantic, who cries at sappy movies, and sometimes Hallmark commercials, I'm also a realist; I know it's not always heroes rescuing damsels in distress...

but don't we all need a little rescuing sometimes?

4. Wouldn't it be nice if someone came galloping in and swept you off your feet, and you lived out your happily ever after?

5. Wouldn't it be nice if the world ran on love instead of intolerance?

Is that what the X's and O's stand for? Hugs and kisses?

What if every day was dedicated to love and hugs and kisses?

In honor of Valentine's Day, go hug or kiss someone...

or smile at someone, or hold a door open for someone...

Because if you look hard enough...

If I Die Young...

The Band Perry can go suck it.

Because their song is so beautiful; but if you stop to really listen to all the words it's really just sad.

And it has me thinking...

which is never a good thing.

Because if I did die young, what would happen to my kids? And my husband? And my parents, because parents aren't supposed to bury their children?

Who could ever love them like I could? Like their mama could? Sure, they have my husband; their papa. But he's no substitute for a me

Who would hear them in the middle of the night and cover them up and kiss their forehead like only their mama could?

Who would understand just by looking at their expression what they needed or wanted or what was troubling them?

Who would let them sit out in the living room for breakfast on school days so they could watch SpongeBob, even though we have a "no eating anywhere but the kitchen" rule?

Who would know not to put sunscreen on Jacob's face unless he's outside because he dryheaves otherwise? Or the fact that he gags when he smells worms after it rains? Or that he needs to bring his favorite stuffed animal to school every day so can have a little piece of home?

Who would know that Anna is a closed book with her feelings? She doesn't tell you how she's doing unless she's distracted. And who would know that beneath her sparkly smile, she really needs a boost of self-confidence?

Who would know that the reason Camden usually throws a tantrum is because his feelings are hurt? Who would know that he really can do things for himself, but he doesn't want to because he likes to be mama's baby boy?

Who would spoil this sweet little thing and dance with her and sing Stereo Hearts with her because that is her favorite song? Who would know that we do not listen to kids' tunes around here? Give us some Black Eyed Peas or Adele so we can have a Dance Party U.S.A. But we like it loud so it drowns out our out-of-tune voices.

Who would be their memory keeper, storing all of the precious moments and telling them remember when? stories when they are grown?

I hope I'll never have to know the answers to these questions.

That'll teach me to listen to The Band Perry before I go to bed.

Nothing

1. I have nothing for Monday Listicles.

2. Because it's Super Bowl Sunday.

3. And I was making Monster Cookies.

4. Which are pretty much the most delicious cookies ever. And they have to be a little healthy with all of the oatmeal in there, yes? Nevermind the huge globs of peanut butter, real butter and M&M's.

5. And before that I ate huge piles of wings...

6. And after the cookies I ate pizza.

7. So, all in all, a very healthy day of eating.

8. Also, my girls are very sparkly today...

9. I love to watch the Super Bowl...mainly for the commercials.

10. Of course, the M&M commercial was my favorite...naked, dancing M&M's...can't get much funnier than that (for a chocolate lover anyway).

11. So did your team win? Do you care who won? Or are you just in it for the food and commercials?

Surrender

This is me...

sitting on the floor of the kitchen, because that is where we plopped.

My littlest wrapping her arms around my legs; then patting the floor for me to sit and read books; my heart can't resist even though my mind is telling me my list of to-do's aren't yet finished; then again they never are.

So we sit on the hard floor, looking at the brightly colored pictures while I wait for my afternoon coffee to kick in; knowing that in a few minutes we'll have to pick up the older two kids from school; and I need a different kind of energy for them. Parenting school aged children requires a mental sort of energy that some days I'm lacking. The homework, the attitudes, the complaining, the sass.

While I prepare for the big kids, I let my mind wander, and think about nothing except peek-a-boo...

what book we're going to read next...

where my slippers went...

and how fast they grow up.

And, when did I start needing a cup of afternoon coffee?
