Dream Vacation

 I dream of vacations
to far off places.
An ocean,
some sand,
a book in my hand.

An afternoon nap
in the warmth of the sun,
the sweet island breezes
swiftly carry me to calm.

Nothing to think about
dreaming all day,
as the little kids frolic
in the water and play.

The waves of the ocean
gently lap on the sand,
in a rhythmical lullaby
never heard on the land.

Carefree and happy
with sunkissed cheeks,
watching as the sun sets
on the ocean it peeks.

A dream vacation
to an ocean so blue,
Someday we will get there
Even if it's just us two.

Flicker of Inspiration Prompt #8: I Need a Vacation

Write about a trip either you or a character has taken. It doesn't need to be a literal trip but can be more of figurative journey. If you're writing memoir, what do you remember most about this trip? Do you remember what it's like to go somewhere you've never been? If you're writing fiction, describe your character's trip vividly. Make us feel what your character felt, see what they saw, experience what they experienced. Come back and take us on your journey by linking up next Sunday.

  1. Beautiful! The rhythm of this was just perfect...almost like waves lapping against a beach. It made me ache for that dream vacation as well.

    My favorite stanza was this:

    The waves of the ocean
    gently lap on the sand,
    in a rhythmical lullaby
    never heard on the land.

*sigh* This is just SO true. And it really is a lullaby...a stress reliever, too!
